Collection: Textiles from Caraguatá

Caraguatá Textiles Caraguatá is a shrub from the bromeliad family, so called in the eastern part of the region (Paraguay and Brazil), and chaguar in the western part (Argentina and Bolivia). Indigenous women make a light and very resistant fiber from it, which is then dyed with natural colors and woven into wider and thicker wefts, depending on its use. Caraguatá weaving is still practiced in a similar way by almost all 25 indigenous peoples of the Gran Chaco, varying in colors and ornamental motifs with the creation of unique pieces.
